Mayouf finally breaks down in tears when his neighbour's daughters come to meet him for the first time -- as he realises all he has missed... Over 100,000 Kurds were expelled from Kirkuk in a vicious campaign of ethnic cleansing. Now they are eagerly returning, trying to establish a new Kurdish led multi-ethnic administration in the city. At around 5:30 am on Sunday, three ISIS militants who were Kurdish nationals arrived at a Peshmerga front line in Kirkuk to surrender. Two of them were from the township of Said Sadiq in the Sulaimani province and one from Erbil,” Brigadier General Kakamand Kak Rash, commander of the Peshmerga’s Emergency and Defense Forces in Kirkuk, told Rudaw. “The surrendered militants escaped ISIS in Mosul and managed to reach Peshmerga front lines in Kirkuk, and they went back on joining and fighting for the extremist group," Kak Rash added. The commander also told Rudaw that the militants would be treated according to the terror law and “for more investigations we handed them over to the Asayish (security forces) to know whether they have taken part in any battle and crime against the Peshmerga.”...
Iraqi polls are to be held in January, 2010 but the elections law remains controversial. The oil-rich city of Kirkuk in Northern Iraq is at the heart of the debate. Kurds consider Kirkuk a Kurdish city and want it to be part of their self-ruled region in northern Iraq.Arabs and Turkmen vehemently disagree. They want control to be with the central government in Baghdad and some accuse Kurds of deliberately changing demographics in their favour. The new law benefits the Kurdish community. Al Jazeeras Mosab Jasim reports.
From: https://www.youtube.com/user/AFP October 19, 2017 - With the return of Kirkuk to Iraqi control, the balance of power appears to have shifted between the ethnic communities in the Kurdish-majority city, to the delight of its Turkmen residents. --- http://www.facebook.com/PigMineNews http://twitter.com/PigmineNews PigMine6 on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/pigmine6 PigMine7 on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/pigmine7 FAIR USE NOTICE: This video may contain copyrighted material. A drive through in city of kirkuk iraq
With a population of 5.2 million and increasing, the three governorates of Erbil, Slemani, and Duhok cover approximately 40.000 square kilometers - larger than the Netherlands and four times the area of Lebanon. This includes the governorates administered by the Kurdistan Regional Government but does not include the disputed areas of Kurdistan outside of KRG administration, such as Kirkuk. • The Region is geographically diverse, from hot and dry plains to cooler mountainous areas with natural springs and snowfall in the winter. • Foreign visitors are warmly welcomed. Among the growing number of visitors are international media and business people as well as those returning from the Kurdish diaspora. • The capital and the seat of the Kurdistan Regional Government is Erbil, a city known i...
